12月21日 Pissed off...or betrayed. This is how I feel at the moment.
Work sucks!!!
I'm not going to Bremen early January. In fact, I'm not even sure to go anymore. Since last Monday evening, I am on holiday and I'm not enjoying it at all. First, I got sick while I was packing and moving all my stuff out of my house. The day after, Airbus France phoned me to tell me I was not going to Bremen. This is obviously the thing that bothers me the most as I really counted on it. Besides, 2 months ago, they told me I will go but it turned out that they are cutting off the budget for the project in Germany. Well, it seems that there is only the need for a half-time position on the project over there. I am really disapointed since I met all the staff there and they were waiting for me. However the game is not over, believe me. I am not going to drop everything that easily. After the phone talk I had with my boss from Airbus France, I rang one of my German colleagues to find out what was happening. It was at that moment they told me that the work package was not defined yet. So, with Airbus bureaucracy no bloody work package means no budget allocated. Kind of obvious after all. The problem is that, initialy, my boss from Airbus France defined a trans-national work package which has unfortunately been rejected by his hierarchy. So what should be done now is defining a work package for this activity in Germany even though there is a need for a half time position.
The feedback I have from the German staff is very positive, so I hope they are going to make it! I will then have to get in touch with CIMPA GmbH and hopefully they will accept to contract me to Airbus GmbH. I have one month to make it happen. The countdown has started. In the meantime, I will have to train one of my colleagues here in Toulouse. This is one of the conditions they asked me to let me go.
So I am really fed up since for the coming month, I have no home and I am not even sure to go to Bremen in February if my candidature is rejected by CIMPA GmbH. Besides, after having trained someone in January, I have no clue about where I could end up if things are not working out! Maybe my Company will contract me on whatever project I would not like!!! So I will cross my fingers badly until the end of January and try to enjoy my homeless life style, squating at friends' places. If I look things from the good side and if things are working out, sooner or later, I will eventually work abroad half time on something I know quite well (the project I'm working on at the moment) and half time on something new (whatever it is, I'll take it)
My latest words will be: good luck to all of you, hard workers. 12月1日 Here are my current worries...My big fear is not to go to Bremen as early as expected. Let me explain myself...
2 months ago, a colleague of mine from Airbus Germany resigned and I asked my boss to take over his position over there, in Bremen. As any other Engineer, contractually, his advance notice is 3 months, he's then going to leave the Company late december. So you see me coming... I expect to be there either late december or early january.
Of course, this guy is working the same way as me at Airbus. I mean he's an in situ subcontractor as I am. Moreover, we both have the same French boss from Airbus France. The "Airbus way" is to actually to work package an activity/work to subcontracted Companies.
What I want to say is that we are going into a "crucial" period for me as my "Airbus boss" will soon know whether he's going to get enough budget to keep a "work package" in Germany. My feeling is that he's not going to have any problem to get it... So the problem is not really here. It is more with my "Cimpa" boss... or with my "Coframi boss"...
Reminder: I am employed by Coframi, then Coframi subcontract me to Cimpa, which is an Airbus subsidiary, and eventually, Cimpa subcontract me to Airbus France!!!!
To sum-up, my "Airbus France" biss has no objections to "send me" to Bremen IF:
I am not worried about the 2 lasts conditions as the job is on track and I think I'll meet the deadline on time with no problem. My fear rather relies on my "Coframi and Cimpa bosses" because I've got no news from them lately. This means that I'll have to phone them some day next week cause there is one remaining condition at the moment!!! I need them to put a guy with me to assure the covering period. this must be done ASAP. I let you appreciate how things can get complicated easily at Airbus. So don't be surprised if they announce further delays for the A380 delivery 6月20日 What a bloody car! Here is the latest news about my car... It was planned that I get my car repaired last Friday but unfortunately when the mechanic turned it on there still was a bloody leak. So the grease monkey told me that I had to change the radiator because it was broken (I already changed the 2 fans by the way)... So once again I had to call all the scrap-yards around in order to find a second-hand radiator of a bloody Peugeot 205 Turbo Diesel from 1994. You can imagine that I was really pissed off!!!!
Eventually I've been quite lucky and did not look for it for a long time. I could then bring the radiator to the garage owner on Saturday morning and then go to the Pyrénées to celebrate the 25th birthday of a friend of mine.
Back to the car stuff now...I just got it a hour ago and I had to pay a bill of 256 euros... So this is the reason why I'm complaining today!!! Because I had also to pay 160 euros for the fans and the radiator... So if you calculate, I had to pay 416 euros to fix a leak... does my car deserve it? 6月16日 Good news!!!!!!!!!First, I've eventually found the fans I was looking for to fix my car
Second, I'm planing to visit my friends this summer. Hopefully I'll be in San Sebastian and then in London throughout July
In the end, a friend of mine is celebrating his 25th birthday this weekend. So a huge party is planned 6月8日 Rowing & scrap yardRowing because this evening it's been the first time I tried this sport and it actually hurts muscles but of course in a very positive way!!
Scrap yard because I'm gonna go to one of it tomorow afternoon to get two second hand fans to fix my car. These second hand fans will be much more cheaper than brand new ones.
So I'm gonna save some money as it is not worth putting brand new fans on my very old car, a Peugeot 205 from 1994
This car is still runing like a clock (when there is no leak of course) 6月5日 Never buy a car...Take it as an advice. OK let's explain you why cars piss me off!!
I am really upset because I'll have to pay a roughly 750 euros bill to get my car repaired. This because the coolant is leaking when the engine is too hot. In fact, one of the two fans behind the alternator is broken and as a result it cannot cool the engine. Because of this, the coolant is boiling and therefore there is too much pressure in the cooling system and then the cooling agent gets out from the cork.
You're lucky if you've understood what I mean.
Anyway I'm not really happy to have a car at the moment although I need it to go at work :( 5月28日 About the weekendFor the first time, I've been in Norway, in Oslo, in the third city the most expensive in the world! It was a really quick trip as I decided to go last Wenesday 24th. And I'm already back home, Sunday 28th May. Anyway I had a really good time with my friend Ugo, THE crazy Italian guy
Oslo is definitly a good place to live if you love nature and particularly the forest. We went downhill biking for 2 hours and it was simply beautiful. Also when you're hanging around you can easily see that the cost of living over there is not cheap at all!! Seeing very expensives cars is not seldom at all and also at night everything is lighted!!! It is well-known that there is no shortage of energy in Norway but anyway, from my point of view they'd better save some of it for the environment!
Some of the pics here in the blog.
5月19日 Here it is... a video of one of my flights!I finally succeeded in getting the video incorporated in my blog. So here it is on the left-hand frame. Bear with me as it may take some time to download it. The file is quite big :-(
But I hope it is worth waiting and that you will have fun seeing me running in the air while lifting off
I managed to land safely just along a small river in the valley. I hope I'll go back gliding soon
5月3日 I'm getting addicted...addicted to PARAGLIDING!
I flew last Monday and it has been GREAT. I've put some pictures of my hobby online plus a little bonus: a video of a missed take off!
Paco, the guy who landed in a bush (have a look at the pics), is making a video. So I'm waiting for him to show you that I succeeded to take off and finally landed safely!
I'll put a hyperlink here in this blog soon. 4月9日 Maiden flight as a paraglider accomplished! One of my dreams came true : FLYING
It was yesterday in Port de Lers in the French Pyrénées. And finally we got good weather conditions for paragliding!! I then made my 3 first flights as a paraglider ;). 3 short but marvellous flights which lasted 5-10 minutes. I was very stressed for the first one but then for the 2 folllowings I simply enjoyed it!!!
Now I am looking forward to flying more and more... So many things to learn in paragliding like for example how to go in thermic streams in order to remain in the air as long as possible. 3月31日 Le village du peupleA friend of mine is currently looking for an indian and a plumber to join his new band called "Le village du peuple" (kind of new village people). He is completely crazy and wants to cast people as soon as possible. As I'm trying my best to help him, please send your application to matthieudelannis@hotmail.fr.
Below there are two pictures of your future band member...
Note: thanks to Mateo for these great pictures 3月30日 Still waiting for my first long flight as a paraglider!I did not provide you with any news about paragliding. Well I go on... Last weekend I was supposed to fly for the first time as a paraglider in the French Pyrénées but unfortunatly I could not because of ... guess what? The weather!!! There was a bad wind coming from the south (at about 25 km/h) on location we planned to take off. I then asked the instructor why we don't take off from another spot? But he explained me that when there is a south wind such as this, it is very dangerous to fly in French Pyrénées because if the turbulences get a hold of you (to the other side of the top) you are in big troubles: you can loose control of the sail and crash... So everything is because of aerology (complicated to explain and I am not very clear) Basically it would have been possible to fly but in Spanish Pyrénées! It was too far away...
So I hope all meteorological conditions will be ok this weekend as I am badly looking forward to flying... I eventually learned something last time, paragliding is a sport for patient and humble people. So no hurry, I'll fly sooner or later :)
By the way, my mobile has been sold on eBay even though there weren't many offers for it :( I got 27,50 € for this crappy phone. Thanks to the buyer! 3月20日 My mobile on eBayI just put my mobile phone on a very famous online auction website: eBay. Let's see if I can get a good price for my old mobile, a Motorola C350. Here is a picture of this marvellous phone with color screen and a non-ergonomic user interface ;) The reason why I am selling it by the way!
Please follow the here after link and take a bid for rising the price!!
(Hopefully the link is working)
I am fed up with this phone. I actually use an older one, one designed in Finland, a Nokia 3310!! Still working :)
Anyway I am hoping lots of bidders... for maybe buying a brand new mobile phone :) 3月12日 No small flights yetToday has been a paragliding day... I was looking forward to doing small flights but weather conditions were not optimum so I'll wait next week-end for flying as a bird ;-) It was too windy (roughly 30 km/h) on the spot we planned to take off. I definitly have bad luck with the weather lately but I hope it is going to change soon!
It hasn't been a white day anyway as I've been practicing on gentle slope all day long learning how to inflate the wing. I also glided on the ground to get used to the handling of the wing.
I was up to make a tandem flight with an experienced paraglider in the late afternoon but the wind was definitly too strong :-( Hopefully, next time will be better.
3月10日 What a tiring trip!I forgot previously to tell you to bear with my English and turn on your mental spellchecker while reading.
I'm back home. Unfortunately I had no time for having beers in Bremen because of the bad weather :( Let me explain... Initially I had to change plane in Frankfurt at 9.30am and then fly to Bremen but there was a snow storm in Frankfurt on Wenesday evening and as a result I got stuck at Toulouse airport until 8am because the aircraft could not have landed... After the snow storm has gone I finally took off from Toulouse but then when I arrived at Frankfurt airport, the flight to Bremen was gone... bad luck! As I was travelling in business class I didn't have to worry about anything, the airline, Air Lufthansa, settled me in a hotel in Frankfurt for a night and booked me a flight the next morning very early (boarding time was 6am). You should understand by now why I haven't had beers in Bremen. The bad thing is that my French colleague was waiting for me at the Bremen airport and I couldn't contact him to tell him that I'll go directly to Airbus for the meeting instead of going to the hotel in Bremen. I only left him a message at the reception of the hotel... and he got it quite late. So I owe him an apéritif because of that!! :-)
The journey at Airbus has been then very good. I could go for a short walk down town in the afternoon. That is a shame that I could not have taken pictures for showing some good sights but my camera had no battery :-( Without waiting too much, I had to go at the airport again!!!! And again I had bad luck on the way back... As a matter of fact, the Canadair Jet 700 which usually operates from Frankfurt to Toulouse was out of order for some reasons that Lufthansa did not tell us! And we had to wait for another one which was approaching the airport. Eventually I arrived in Toulouse on Thursday at midnight and I was home around 1am completly exhausted! Anyway it has been a great experience and I met very kind German people. I hope I'll go back sooner or later.
For sure travelling life style is great but exhausting especially if you fly 3 times a day and if you have to cope with unexpected events ;-)
3月7日 Business trip to BremenI am flying to Bremen tomorow :-) I am quite excited because I have never been in Germany. Unfortunately I won't have time to visit the city because I go there for a meeting. In fact, I'll arrive there late at night (around 10pm), I'll go then at the hotel down town and the next morning I'll be fresh to meet German's colleagues at Airbus premises for finally flying back to Toulouse in the evening ... not so many time for sightseeing :-(
Hopefully I'll take some time tomorow night for having beers in a pub... with a French fellow from Airbus who left Toulouse today and who suggested me to join him to that meeting. I am actually kind of meeting a Frenchman in Bremen! (weird, isn't it?) but I'll have an opportunity to meet Germans so that is cool! Anyway I should not have a hangover on Thursday, so no more than a couple of beers ;-)
3月5日 Week-end is over...Hi all!
I've been looking at pictures I took last year during the Erasmus exchange programme in Helsinki and I've decided to put some here in this blog. I had a great time over there in Finland and I hope I would have an opportunity to go back soon for having a good time ;)
Meanwhile I am working here in Toulouse as a consultant at Airbus. My consulting company is COFRAMI. They made the mistake of hiring me 2 months ago and they're still hiring graduated engineers at the moment. So if you're seeking to a job in France feel free to send me your résumé (& cover letter) and I'll do my best to bring it to the Human Resources department... You may wonder why I'm advertising for my company... well it is not because I have suddendly got a corporate spirit. It is only that I'll get a bonus on my salary if I make someone hired :) Business is business, isn't it? I'm trying hard to coopt someone. I haven't succeeded yet! I do not know if this co-optation system is used by all consulting firms all over the world ????
Anyway I experienced paragliding this week-end and it has been great! First of all you should not be stressed for doing that kind of sport cause it is weather dependant... There are basic rules you must accept like no paragliding if rainy or stormy ;) and then always taking off and landing against the wind. So you have to be patient... but the good thing is that this sport is not a difficult one. In one day I learnt how to inflate the sail and I was able to make some leaps on a small slope :) I am looking forward to doing small flights next week-end. :)
